Have a Rummage!

Watch out for our Online store with NEW TITLES COMING SOON!

This summer, we have a challenge for our families, and that is to… Have a rummage!

Search! Climb those bookshelves! Clamber into cupboards! Hunt. yes down the memory boxes, long tucked away! Rediscover those well-loved stories your children couldn’t put down as they learnt to read! Help them reignite that fascination for an old favourite! Or, perhaps… it’s time to add new ones to the collection?

Books are not just stories, but windows into culture, heritage and identity. This is the service we offer at CALFE; create narratives, preserve traditions for a world that is swiftly changing. Across Africa and the Caribbean, storytelling has long passed on history, values and oral traditions, now recorded in print. Today’s children’s books, especially those created by CALFE Authors, continue that legacy, by introducing young readers to vibrant cultures through folklore, food, family life, languages, celebrations and unforgettable adventures.

The collection above showcases just some of the inspiring titles written by CALFE authors. Together, we celebrate African and Caribbean heritage through magical tales, everyday experiences, traditional stories, alphabet books, fashion, food and courageous young characters, we make every story an adventure, as we look forward to celebrating our Flip into Wonder series in October. To keep the conversation going  after reading, here are just a few questions to ask your wards:

  1. Where does the story take place?
  2. What foods or traditions did you discover?
  3. Which character did you relate to most?
  4. Can you find the country on a map?
  5. Does this remind your of your heritage or that of someone you know?
  6. Is there another African or Caribbean story you’d like to explore?

You might even be inspired to cook a new dish, learn a traditional song or tell a family story of your own.

#The Rummage Challenge OR visit our store to Rediscover one book you already own. Read one new story celebrating African or Caribbean heritage. Share what you’ve learned with family and friends. Because every book opens a door to imagination, belonging and a deeper understanding of self and the world.
